Metaphor/Extended Metaphor

Definition: A metaphor is a literal or poetic phrase used to compare one thing to another without using like or as. An extended metaphor is a grouping of phrases used to compare things without using like or as.

Example: I am a river that finds its way
I am a candle that beams a say
I am a flower that opens wide
I am a bee that works the ride.

I am a caterpillar in a cocoon
I am a butterfly emerging soon
I am a pond that looks within
I am a man of top spin.

Significance: The significance of the metaphors and extended metaphors are that it helps the reader see what the speaker wants us to see. This also adds more excitment and it intrigues the reader to read on
