Meter

Definition: A meter is analyzing the poems in patterns. It also shows how many feet there are in the poem.

Example: 

Explanation: Meters in poems is to measure the poems rhythm in patterns. This organizes the poem into a certain way that the poet would want.


Rhyme

Definition: Rhyming in poetry is when the poet uses certain words in a stanza that sound alike usually at the end of a line.

Example: 
(In this poem the poet uses words like wall and fall so that it rhymes and entertains the reader) 

Explanation: Poets use rhyming in poetry to entertain the reader so they would read on and enjoy the poem. It would interest reader and depending on what kind of words they use to rhyme, different audiences enjoy them more or less.


Rhythm

Definition: Rhythm in poetry is the movement of  words that are put into order that reoccur in a certain way.

Example: 
:The rhythm in that poem was steady because every line had the same amount of syllables

Explanation: Rhythm in poetry helps add more interest or it intrigues the reader. The rhythm adds a kind of flow to the poem to make it seem steady and paced.

Onomatopoeia

Definition: Onomatopoeia is when the poet uses to make the reader hear a sound that something makes.

Example:




Explanation: The poet uses onomatopoeia to make the reader hear a certain sound that something in the poem makes. This adds more intrest for the reader.

Personification

Definition: Personification is when you give something that is not a human being human like attributes.

Example:

  • Earth felt the wound; and Nature from her seat, Sighing, through all her works, gave signs of woe. - John Milton




  • Snow speaks to the people, its falling above in the glooming sunlight. Its white sparkling voice echoes as it falls through the air - Jake




  • Explanation: A poet might use personification to help add intrest into the poem. The poet would give animals or other things human like qualities so that the reader could relate more too the object or there ideas.

    Imagery

    Definition: Imagery in poetry is when the author uses certain words to connect with the readers senses so that the readers experience with the poem is better.

    Example:
    I took a walk around the world to
    Ease my troubled mind
    I left my
    body laying somewhere
    In the
    sands of time
    I watched the world float to the dark
    Side of the moon

    I feel there is nothing I can do

    Explanation: The poet uses imagery so that the reader can imagine what is going on in the poem better. He would feel more connceted in the poem and he can relate to the poem better. The reader could feel his senses like his taste, touch, hearing, seeing, and hearing if there is imagery in a poem.

    Similie

    Definition: A similie is describing two things while using like or as.

    Example: Explanation: A similie in a poem is used to make the reader picture or compare the object the poet is using. This makes the reader more intrested into the poem and he would feel more connected to the poem.
